President Trump Calls for FCC Action Against 'Meet the Press' Host Kristen Welker Over Endorsement Coverage

In a recent social media post, former President Donald Trump has taken aim at "Meet the Press" moderator Kristen Welker, threatening to report her to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) over her coverage of his endorsements ahead of the midterm elections. Trump, who has been vocal about his political views and actions on social media platforms, cited a Truth Social post where he accused Welker of presenting "purposeful inaccuracy" in her reporting.

According to Trump, Welker, whom he referred to as the "Unpopular 'Hostess' of the once great Meet the Press, now considered Meet the Fake Press," stated that his endorsements had "mixed results." However, Trump claimed that the recent wins of Darline Graham and Mike Mazzei, whom he endorsed, stood at 100% for the U.S. Senate and 98% for the U.S. House, respectively.

The former president's remarks come after a tense interview with Welker in early June, during which he abruptly left the interview after a confrontation over his comments on California election security. Despite the FCC's limited legal power to take action against Welker as an individual, Trump's comments escalate his criticism of the journalist.

Welker has not yet commented on Trump's accusations, and NBC, the network that airs "Meet the Press," has not issued a statement on the matter. The FCC typically does not comment on specific cases until formal complaints are filed.

Trump's social media post is part of a broader pattern of the former president using social media to criticize journalists and media outlets he perceives as being unfair to him. His threats to report Welker to the FCC follow a series of similar actions against other media figures, including CNN's Jim Acosta and MSNBC's Rachel Maddow.

In addition to his criticism of Welker, Trump has also been in the news recently for his renaming campaign. He has ordered the renaming of Lake Ontario to "Lake America" and the Gulf of Mexico to "Gulf of America," moves that have sparked controversy and debate across the country.

The renaming of Lake Ontario, which is shared by the United States and Canada, is part of a larger effort by Trump to assert American dominance and independence in the face of international trade disputes. His decision to rename the lake comes amid an ongoing trade war between the U.S. and Canada, which has included tariffs on steel and aluminum and other goods.

Trump's renaming campaign has also included the renaming of the Department of Defense to the "Department of War," a move that has been criticized by some as a symbolic gesture that undermines the department's mission. In addition, Trump has renamed the USS Harvey Milk, a Navy vessel, to USNS Oscar V. Peterson, in honor of a World War II Medal of Honor recipient.

As the midterm elections approach, Trump's use of social media to criticize journalists and promote his political agenda is likely to continue. His actions have sparked a debate about the role of social media in modern politics and the impact of former presidents using these platforms to influence public opinion.
