Trump Urges Ukraine to Cease Attacks on Russian Diesel Supplies Amid Escalating Drone Exchanges

United States President Donald Trump has publicly called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to halt long-range military strikes on Russian diesel production facilities, asserting that the ongoing campaign is precipitating severe fuel shortages. Trump made the remarks while attending the Irish Open golf tournament, which was hosted at his Trump International Golf Links course in Doonbeg, Ireland.

The American president’s comments came in response to questions regarding whether he had engaged in discussions with Zelenskyy following a recent dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Addressing reporters on the sidelines of the sporting event, Trump directed his focus toward Kyiv’s recent operational strategy against Russian infrastructure.

Trump insisted that the Ukrainian leadership must alter its targeting priorities, arguing that energy disruptions should be avoided. "Mr. Zelensky has to do one thing. He has to stop knocking out diesel fuel in Russia," Trump stated. He elaborated that while Ukraine could pursue other military objectives, strikes specifically degrading diesel supplies must end because of the widespread scarcity they are generating.

The remarks address a central pillar of Ukraine’s broader military strategy. For several months, Ukrainian forces have deployed long-range drones to systematically target Russia’s oil and natural gas infrastructure. Officials in Kyiv maintain that dismantling these energy nodes is vital because the sector generates critical revenue for Moscow and directly supplies the mechanized units sustaining its more than four-year-old invasion of Ukraine.

The persistent aerial offensive has exerted measurable pressure on Russia's domestic fuel logistics. Despite Moscow's position as one of the world’s foremost exporters of oil and gas, the disruption to refining capacity has triggered fuel rationing across various Russian regions. In addition to targeting energy hubs, Ukrainian drone strikes have also struck major Russian online retail entities, steadily bringing the direct impacts of the war into the everyday lives of the Russian public.

Trump’s warning coincided with a night of intense, reciprocal drone bombardments between the two nations, resulting in multiple civilian casualties and extensive damage on both sides of the border.

In Russia’s Tatarstan region, an overnight drone strike claimed the lives of two civilians and left 14 others injured in the city of Nizhnekamsk. According to the office of regional governor Rustam Minnikhanov, the two victims were killed when an incoming unmanned aircraft struck a tree adjacent to their parked automobile.

Nizhnekamsk represents an essential industrial center for Russia's economy, housing major petrochemical facilities, polymer and synthetic rubber manufacturers, and several of the nation's largest oil refining operations. Following the attack, Nizhnekamsk Mayor Radmir Belyaev confirmed that emergency crews were responding to a blaze that erupted at an unspecified industrial enterprise within the municipality.

Simultaneously, Ukrainian defense officials reported successful strikes elsewhere across the border. The Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) stated that its drone operators had struck a major oil refinery located in Slavyansk-on-Kuban, situated within Russia's Krasnodar region across from the Crimean peninsula. According to Ukrainian intelligence, the strike successfully hit a primary oil processing unit as well as the facility's fuel storage tank farm.

Regional authorities in Krasnodar confirmed that an attack on an industrial enterprise in Slavyansk-on-Kuban resulted in injuries to three individuals, ignited a major fire, and caused structural damage to an oil pipeline. Local Russian officials, however, did not directly address the specific claims made by Ukrainian intelligence regarding the full extent of the refinery's operational destruction.

In total, Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed that its domestic air defense networks intercepted and downed 389 Ukrainian aerial drones over the course of the overnight operations across multiple Russian regions.

While Ukrainian drones struck targets deep inside Russian territory, Moscow launched extensive aerial assaults across Ukraine, zeroing in heavily on the Black Sea port city of Odesa as well as areas in the western part of the country. Ukrainian authorities reported that Russian drone salvos triggered a significant blaze in the vicinity of a border crossing leading into neighboring Poland.

In Odesa, at least nine people sustained injuries during what local officials characterized as a massive overnight drone onslaught. Serhii Lysak, the head of the Odesa city military administration, detailed the extensive emergency response underway across the port city following the nighttime strikes.

Odesa serves as Ukraine's primary maritime trading gateway on the Black Sea and has remained under continuous drone and missile bombardment for months. The Ukrainian government has repeatedly accused Moscow of attempting to choke off Ukraine’s maritime logistics, disrupt global grain routes, and cripple its remaining export capabilities through sustained assaults on port infrastructure and storage warehouses.

The weekend’s overnight destruction in the Black Sea port followed another fatal assault just a day prior. On Saturday, a Russian drone struck a multi-story residential building in Odesa, leaving two civilians dead and injuring 26 others, according to Ukrainian emergency services, highlighting the persistent and deadly toll inflicted on civilian populations as both nations intensify their cross-border aerial campaigns.
